Tracking SQL Database Growth in MOM 2005
Tracking SQL database size over time is obviously a component of storage capacity planning, and originally there was not an out-of-the-box means to obtain this information in MOM 2005. This apears to have been rectified in the last version of the SQL 2000/2005 Management Pack for MOM 2005 ( v9.0.2047 released back in late May '06). Where to turn it on: on the rule "SQL Server Database Space Analysis" (separate rules in each SQL 2000/2005 parent group under State Monitoring and Service Discovery), goto to Responses tab and find the script parameter 'CollectData', which is set to False by default. Set to True to start data collection. (Note that in the latest version of the MP guide, it incorrectly states the parameter is located on the SQL Server Service Availability Script) Output: Using the Operational Health Analysis\Performance Analysis report to chart this data, look for the following: Object: SQLServer:Databases, Counter: MSSSQLServer:<databasename>, Instance: free/used/size counter of your choice (Database free, used or size, Log free, used or size) |
